Supporting carers and parents | CEO Summit

We recently hosted our final CEO Summit for 2024, bringing together members committed to creating more inclusive, flexible, and supportive workplaces for parents and carers.

Led by Martina Crowley, CEO for Gender Equity and Managing Partner at PwC Perth, the summit focused on the evolving expectations and needs of employees who balance work with caring responsibilities. Martina and her team facilitated a powerful discussion on how organisations can lead with empathy and innovation — setting a new standard for workplace support.

Throughout the summit, members shared real-world examples of initiatives that are already making a difference, including:

  • Offering personalised support to parents and carers, tailored across different life stage

  • Rebranding parental and carer leave as 'Life Leave' to make it inclusive for all employees

  • Introducing ‘keep in touch’ days to maintain connection during leave periods

  • Implementing flexible work arrangements such as job sharing and part-time roles

  • Hosting morning tea events for employees preparing to go on, currently on, or returning from parental leave

  • Actively promoting all available support options so that leaders are visibly championing flexibility

  • Providing superannuation top-ups for periods of unpaid parental leave

  • Enabling work-from-anywhere policies across up to 14 countries

Avoiding meetings before 9am and after 3pm to better support work-life balance

The summit served as a powerful reminder that meaningful change stems from leadership. By sharing strategies, testing new ideas, and being willing to challenge legacy systems, members are helping shape the future of work.

We extend our thanks to all who participated for their openness, insights, and continued leadership.
